Marilynn A. Schmidt is Deputy Mission Director for USAID Serbia and Montenegro headquartered in Belgrade, Serbia at the Embassy of the United States. As Deputy Mission Director she serves as the alter ego of the Mission Director on all matters pertaining to program direction and strategy, financial management, contracting and administration for USAID programs in Serbia and in Montenegro.A career employee, Schmidt has served USAID in the Foreign Service since 1988. In 2003, she was the Acting Director of the Office of Euro-pean Country Affairs in the E&E Bureau. From 2002 – 2003 Schmidt was the Senior Advisor to the Office of European Country Affairs in the E&E Bureau. Her previous assignments at USAID have included posi-tions as the Director of the Office of Democracy and Social Transition, USAID Regional Mission for Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus; Director of the Office of Social Transition at the USAID Mission for Central Asia; General Development Officer for the USAID Regional Mission for Central Asia; and a Health Population Officer for USAID/Cairo. She was pro-moted into the Senior Foreign Service in 2006.
A native of Chicago, Illinois Marilynn Schmidt received her Bachelor of Science degree (nursing) from the University of Illinois, and Master of Science degree and a certificate in nurse-midwifery from Yale University.
